Thigh Lift

Lately, have you noticed that your favorite jeans don’t fit as they used to and you experience uncomfortable chafing in shorts or skirts? Has this has negatively impacted your self-esteem and made it difficult for you to pursue an active lifestyle? For many men and women, this is a common problem, often caused by loose, excess skin and fat on the thighs that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. This can occur due to aging, genetics or recent weight loss, resulting in overstretched tissues that have begun to sag and become a source of embarrassment, frustration and discomfort.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you’re not out of options. These concerns can be addressed with thigh lift surgery, an effective procedure designed to enhance your overall appearance by removing unwanted excess skin. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Franziska Huettner excels at sculpting smooth, well-proportioned thighs that complement your natural shape, allowing you to regain your confidence and enjoy your life to the fullest without worrying about feeling concerned or embarrassed about your thighs.

What is a thigh lift?

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of sagging, drooping and loose skin on the inner or outer thighs. A thigh lift provides cosmetic improvements and creates more youthful contours by removing excess skin, enhancing elasticity and restoring a smooth, sculpted appearance. It can also eliminate the discomfort and irritation caused by chafing. By addressing the deeper causes of loose or sagging skin and reshaping the thighs, the results are superior to other procedures and treatments that merely provide a tightening effect with lasers, creams and other techniques.

Who is a good candidate?

The skin on the thighs can become stretched and lax for a variety of reasons, but many patients interested in the procedure have recently achieved significant weight loss. Losing a large amount of weight can result in excess skin that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise, making it difficult to find clothing that fits well or feels comfortable. Pregnancy, aging and genetics can also create unfavorable thigh contours. No matter the cause, ideal candidates for thigh lift surgery are those who:

  • Want to improve the contours of the lower body

  • Have loose, excess skin on the inner or outer thighs

  • Are at a stable weight

  • Feel self-conscious showing their legs

  • Want to create a more proportional appearance

  • Have dimpled, saggy or crepe-like skin on their thighs

  • Want clothing to fit better

  • Are in good health and have realistic expectations

If you’re feeling frustrated by the appearance of your thighs and want to enhance your confidence with smoother skin and a well-proportioned figure, a consultation with Dr. Huettner can help you determine if a thigh lift is right for you. Dr. Huettner offers a highly individualized plastic surgery experience and takes the time to understand your needs and concerns before crafting a customized treatment plan. What can I expect during my Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift does more than simply tighten the skin — it reshapes the upper legs and restores proportion and balance to the body for seamless results that complement a slimmer figure. There are two main types of thigh lifts and your procedure with double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Huettner may consist of an inner thigh lift, an outer thigh lift or a combination of both. Depending on your unique needs, your thigh lift may also be combined with liposuction for more sculpted results.

An inner thigh lift contours the inner thighs by removing excess skin and pulling the area taut for a firmer, smoother appearance. The procedure can last approximately between two and four hours, based on the extent of correction needed.

To produce your desired outcome, Dr. Huetter will make incisions on the inner part of your thigh and or within the fold of the groin and and remove a sufficient amount of skin before lifting and suturing it into place. Incisions are strategically placed to ensure that scars can be easily hidden with clothing for seamless, natural-looking results.

An outer thigh lift is similar to an inner thigh lift, used to sculpt smoother outer thighs with improved tone and elasticity. The incision for an outer thigh lift is located in the hip crease and can also be concealed with most clothing. Dr. Huettner may recommend liposuction to eliminate localized fat deposits for an optimal outcome before removing excess skin and lifting the thigh to restore a firmer, contoured appearance.

Can a Thigh Lift Be Combined With Other Procedures?

For many patients, loose, sagging skin isn’t limited to a single area. This is especially true for patients who have lost a considerable amount of weight.

A thigh lift is often performed in combination with other procedures such as liposuction, tummy tucks, breast lifts or reductions and arm lifts to provide more dramatic, comprehensive results and reduce recovery times. Depending on your areas of concern and aesthetic goals,

Dr. Huettner will develop a personalized procedure plan that meets your specific needs during your initial consultation. By utilizing her experience, skill and precision, Dr. Huettner can help you achieve your body contouring goals with as few surgeries as possible.

What is recovery like?

Recovering from your thigh lift will depend on which technique was used and the extent of your surgery. Generally, recovery takes about two to three weeks, with most patients returning to work after 10 -14 days. Immediately after the procedure, you’ll experience some pain and discomfort, but this can be easily managed with over-the-counter medications. Swelling and bruising are also common in the early stages of recovery, which will gradually subside as your body heals. The first week will be spend recuperating and, although walking will be allowed, limiting more strenuous activity of the legs. Compression garments may be used to promote healing and drains may be placed to prevent excess fluid from accumulating.

After your procedure, Dr. Huettner will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions and advise you on when you can resume normal activities to ensure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. Dr. Huettner understands that recovering from surgery can be a difficult time, so you’ll also be given a direct line of communication to reach her should you have any questions or concerns. From your initial consultation to your aftercare, you’ll be treated with a high level of respect, warmth and compassion that patients have come to expect from Dr. Huettner, earning her a reputation as one of New York’s most dedicated plastic surgeons.
