Lip fillers are made with a hydrating molecule called hyaluronic acid. This substance is found naturally in the skin, where it plays a role in skin volume by binding to water and filling the space between other skin cells and structures. In fillers formulated for the lips, the molecules of hyaluronic acid are kept small to fit seamlessly in the fine lines and smaller spaces that lip enhancement seeks to correct.
Using hyaluronic acid as a volumizing agent keeps any risk of adverse reactions to a minimum, and nearly eliminates possible side effects or the need for downtime. Some clients experience slight bruising or tenderness at the injection site, which fades within a few days, but their treatments do not otherwise inconvenience them. Dr. Huettner is available to answer any questions should you feel your lip injections are not setting properly.
